My Teaching Philosophy
Language is acquired through comprehensible input (Krashen’s n+1). In other words, you should understand over 90% of the content.
Direct instruction of vocabulary and grammar is usually ineffective.
Daily practice should include exposure to comprehensible input and review of previously learned material. I highly recommend spaced repetition flashcard apps.
Character comes before methodology. Find an approach to language learning that fits your personality.
An inspiring long-term goal is required to keep you motivated.
In sum, expose yourself to easy and enjoyable content. Avoid direct instruction in large classrooms. Commit to a daily schedule that includes exposure and review. Identify an inspiring long-term goal to keep you motivated. And most importantly, know yourself. Explore your character and find an approach to learning English that suits your personality.
