Introverts are often considered shy or self-absorbed, but this is not always true. Many introverts simply prefer to spend time alone or with close friends. They find the shallow company of acquaintances at parties less interesting than a deep conversation over a cup of coffee with a close friend.

An introvert studying English would hate taking classes, making small talk, and enduring strict teachers, which is why so many give up on learning English. The same thing happened to me studying Japanese. I wanted to give up because all of the traditional methods of language learning didn’t fit my personality.

So, what is an introvert?

An introvert is usually considered quiet or thoughtful. They hardly ever seek out attention and often prefer to be alone or around close friends. While introverts do fine at parties and social events, they tend to feel exhausted afterward. It is also important to note that being an introvert is not the same as being shy.

So, why should I care?

You will seek out activities that match your personality. If you have a teacher that encourages you to speak English in class all the time and you are an introvert, you are much more likely to perform poorly in class and develop a negative attitude towards English.

When you know your personality, you can study English in a way you find enjoyable.
