Just over 20 years ago today, the epic drama Gladiator was released in theaters and soon became a worldwide sensation. It helped launch Joaquin Phoenix’s career, who stars as Commodus, the son of Marcus Aurelius.
In this scene, his father just shared his decision to name his lead commander Maximus (played by Russell Crowe) emperor. Commodus does not take the news well.
